A unique lighter that sparks an intimate relationship between people and fire.
PROJECT DURATION: 4 WEEKS
Cheap and low quality material.
No emotional connections with the user, nor with its functionality.
I wanted to bring back the close relationship between people and fire by using the fire piston to create an experience that’s both familiar and unconventional.
The form was inspired by a torch, and choosing material, finishes that closely relates to the Alessi brand.
How does a
fire piston work?
It Heats up air by compressing the top part into the lower handle tube.
The result compression ratio is about 25:1, for reference a typical combustion engine has a ratio of 20:1.
Temperature will reach 600+ degrees Fahrenheit enough to light up the materials at the tip, such as cotton ball or char cloth.
